It Was A Different Weekend

 

 

Most definitely , and a fun one to . Myself and all the girls in the family went to a lovely Christmas craft show on Saturday and had fun  looking , oohing and aweing over all the lovely hand made crafts and yummy treats they had there . Most of us ended  up buying lovely home made  jams and tea cakes  to have over the holidays .

These are just some of the yummy cakes I got  the rest are in the freezer lol !  Papa… why is there a lemon cake missing here ? …. um don't know as he says with a mouth full lol !

We spent a good four hours at the craft show as it was in a huge high school  through out the halls , the gymnasium   and part of the cafeteria the other part was for sitting and stopping for a drink and something to eat . We all had a nice time . Whilst I was gone Papa was busy putting up the tree we use for out side and the lights and decorating the outside of the front of the house  . We were surprised when we pulled in the driveway to see it all looking pretty !

Looks even prettier at night will share those photos later lol .

Then Sunday the family went for a nice Christmas brunch at the Elm Hurst Inn a wonderful old huge  Victorian mansion  . The people there are soo nice and the food is amazing all you can eat buffet of every kind of food you can think of  Turkey , roast beef , potato's , salads of all sorts  , breakfast foods , fruits of every kind and the desert tables are amazing   with chocolate fountains  and all kinds of goodies tea coffee poured  before you call for more  plates removed as soon as you are done and ready to go up for more to get another fresh plate  , the service is fast and amazing a

  place indeed !

The Christmas decorations there were beautiful and a huge tree in the foyer waiting room all done so beautifully so we took the time before we had our private party/family  room to take photos of us all in front of the tree . Papa took our photos of the family and his dad  also took photos   . It was a lovely time and stuffed we all were I am still full  , places like that with all that food one has to pace them selves lol and take time to chat and giggle as we all did !   It was a lovely weekend . I will share photos of it all  once Papa has loaded them in his computer  and send them over to my computer .

But I did get out side early in the  mornings as we have had been getting hard frosts to take photos . So I will share a few of them for now .

I could spend hours out there taking frost photos as it looks so different and interesting on everything it forms to ! But the sun rises which I like and it still holds quite a bit of heat and so melts it all  .

Well that was our fun weekend we had , I will share the family brunch photos and the photos of the Christmas decor Papa put up later this week in a post .

Busy But Not Busy

 

Have you ever had one of those weeks were your busy but not busy ? .Well I have had one of those weeks this week . Busily puttering here and there ! It has been quiet  here and the weather has been a mix of warm,  chilly, sunny and cloudy .   I have still seen the odd moth about and fly and mosquito  and I think they are well confused with the warm spell we have been having  , why this  morning when we got up the temps were 13C or 56F that is strangely warm for us this time of year  and there fore nature is all in a tiswas   .

                                Madam , I said to her,  it isn't time to nest as she kept trying to stuff grasses and twigs in !

From a distance I watched this Crow put the attack on this Hawk  pretty brutal fight in mid air if it were two planes they would call it a dog fight .

The Crow is attacking from right underneath the Hawk . Eventually the Hawk got the picture and took off !

Yup still the odd Robin hanging about they like to feast on the crab apple berries and I saw they were living in the big spruce trees in the back 40 !

Mr Cardinal one of many we have here was scrounging for seed on the ground with his Sparrow buddies as he called to the wife Mrs Cardinal to come down and eat . They would of been on the feeder but Mr Blue Jay was being a feeder hog .

                                                       And Miggs well she is always on yard duty !

I cant believe it is the last weekend of November already  where does the time go? !   Tomorrow myself and the girls of the family are going to a Christmas craft show  and on Sunday  Papa, myself and the  family are going to a nice Victorian Inn mansion called The Elm Hurst Inn for a lovey Family Christmas Brunch Buffet all you can eat and all fresh home made  YUMMY !   I haven't quite got into the Christmas spirit or decorating yet  , I am going to say it , I need snow to get into the Christmas spirit not a lot but some would help  . I usually don't decorate  till two weeks before  , if I decorate now I get bored of it all so fast  before Christmas is even here .  Oh well I am sure I will get my Christmas groove on soon lol I used to go hog wild with the decorations and a big tree but now a days  we go simple and small and with our little Charlie brown table top tree just a simple country Christmas for us  lol .

A Frosty Morning

 

  I looked outside my window first thing and saw we had a fairly hard frost so off I went to take photos . Got my coat , boots  fingerless gloves so I can work my camera better and yes still in my jammies  I know but they are fleece and soo warm lol ! So out I go .

                     It was still dusk and the sun hadn’t come up yet so the light was that blueish dark colour .

Then as I was taking more photos and  searching  I then looked up and this is what I saw of the sun rise !

It is amazing how the cold air changes the lighting of the sun as it rises  and how the colours take in the sky ! It was soo pretty !

                                         I then got back to looking for more frosty things to photography !

I just love the crystals that form on everything especially during a hard frost  and they form even more so !

                                    Looks like snow flakes but it is frost crystals , fascinating I find it to be  !

                                                   Miggs my photo buddy was with me of course !

Waiting to go for our walk  so I then went in to get dressed  finish my cuppa tea I made   then  Miggs and I went for a walk ! It was nice peaceful out there . The sun went in and it got cloudy but that was ok we went for our walk anyways . When we got back I thought well it is cold now and the snows have already started here and there so I might as well bite the bullet and put up my winter garden flag !

                    I have it attached to our Birch tree . Well   I went in  at that point  and it started to snow .

          I guess me putting up my winter flag was a sign to mother nature . Miggs was out on yard patrol as it was snowing keeping the birdies safe as they feast at the feeders from any feral cats lurking about looking for breakfast !

It is an off again on again  kind of day weather wise , cloud , snowy with sun patches .  Guess winter really has arrived now .

Our First Dusting Of Snow

 

The day started out cloudy and mild then it started to snow tiny snow flakes at first then  big snow flakes . Miggs and I went for a nice walk  in it and it was quiet in the valley as the snow fell , so peaceful and pretty ! When we got home from our walk it wasn’t so peaceful as the birdies were chatting up a storm and feasting at the feeders like mad . I took  a few photos of the snow  as I do every year  to keep some what of a journal of each season and it’s changes .  Why this time last year we were very deep in snow and very cold . 

 

                                                                     Falling snow is a challenge to capture lol !

You can see  way in the back to the top right of this garden pic I still have English daisies growing , they have been growing and blooming since the beginning of the summer  I take it they like the hot and cold temps .

                             

Miggs loves it as you can see here . Papa was outside in his shed moving about the tractors  the snow blower and digging out the pet safe salts , just getting things prepared for the snowy season that will be here even more so soon  .

  I always find the first snow fall or two  soo pretty and it  really changes the look of the land  even if it melts in a few hours  like it already has !

A Bit Of This &That

 

 

Starting with the weather as that seems to be the most active thing here right now lol  . The sun has been shining from the beginning of the week and the temps have been warm , last night the winds picked up and the temps dropped  this morning it is cold out   sunny with a few clouds 4°C Feels like –1 or  39°F Feels like 30F  BRR !  I think our warm stretch has come to an end now .

Not much has been going on here either it has been pretty quiet well I say quite in the sense of not much happening but quite really isn't the case with all the birdies in the yard feasting chatting away and singing all at once lol .

From the inside of the living room the other day  I saw this Starling one of hundreds that have been stopping over in droves this past week as they are on their migration path enjoying the Sumac seeds  from our Sumac at the top of our little hill . He  was kind of hiding from me .

I ventured out and found more interesting November things to photograph ! Like this Dandelion,  in November ? weird !

     We all know how much I like to photograph  Fungi of every shape and size and I found these in the grass !

Remember that big stump with the fungi on it , well this is the same stump with fungi on the side of it and it is growing fungi in other places to  and the top fungi is changing every week as well .

                            I love going on photo shoot hunts looking for what ever catches my eye !

                                            Can you get your head any more in there little birdy lol !

  Here we have just one of our many male Cardinals scrounging on the ground for food ,there’s lots in the feeders  buddy !

              Miggs napping enjoying the warmth of the sun and the sounds of the yard ! I think she nodded off whilst on yard duty , tiring job yeah know lol !

Our paper birch tree is shedding now and it looks quite a mess but interesting at the same time ! Did you know this paper was used by the pioneers and natives to make canoes ? I saw a video of how they make one from this , it was amazing ! and they also did use it as paper to write on .

                                                    My Geraniums I have in the house  are starting bloom .

         We still have a few Robins about to  all though they may be on their way as it is getting cold now !

Took this with my smart phone on one of our walks  . I love all the pine cones just bursting in the trees !

The odd Morning Dove is also hanging about some times they stay through out the winter and some times they don't .

I made this badge up on the computer the other day using Pic monkey I like to fiddle about and get a little creative on this program every once in a while !

Any who  that’s about all I have for today , the sun has now risen and it is shining on me through my computer room window  feels soo warm  as I sit here in my jammies  with my cuppa tea and type this  , it is 8am and so time to go get dressed and get on with my day !
