Finally Feels Like Fall

The weather has finally changed to the fresh cool air of Fall . It cooled off last night as a cold front rolled in as did the clouds . I was outside having my evening cuppa tea enjoying the cooler air as Miggs was doing her yard check for the night . I was intrigued by the cloud formations and the bright light shining through them , well that bright light was the moons first quarter and it was pretty mixed with in the clouds .

The air was damp and cool  , the crickets were chirping and singing their night time song and at the same time it was soo peaceful . I like how I can see the bright side of the moon and the dark side of the moon .

Today was a lovely fall day, again with fresh air sunshine and cool winds. Miggs and I enjoyed a nice long walk in the morning . First thing this morning  windows were opened to air out the house from the heat wave we just had .

Far to the left and back behind the hedge you can just see the peak of our house , Some leaves on the trees have changed whilst others are still green  but with this cooler weather they will be all changing fast . This weather is perfect for long walks and for getting in the gardens and finally start my fall clean up of the gardens as lots of plants are now done for the season .

I had a small camp fire whilst I was in the midst of garden clean up .

Some of it was scraps of wood from Papa's shop a few leaves and some was yard and garden clippings .
We are getting our new furnace put in tomorrow morning  and Papa took the day off work to be here whilst they put it in so he will have a long weekend this weekend  and our kids are coming down for the weekend to so an extra special weekend for us .  I cant believe September is almost done WOW ! that went fast and October is literately just around the corner and our Thanksgiving is next weekend ..  already?!

Fall ..some call it Autumn  but what ever we all call it , it is finally feeling like it .

                                                                                         Until next time .

Miggs Ends Summer With A Splash Of Fun

Summer ends today at 4:05 pm  as Fall begins but Miggs had a splashing good time saying goodbye to summer as the heat continues .

Miggs loves the sprinkler and since she is feeling better finally was all to happy to play in it !

The heat and humidity will continue till into next week despite the season changing to fall later today but this little guy seems to be enjoying it as he stops for a rest in the field .

The sky's have been soo clear and blue but the odd big beautiful clouds hangs suspended in mid air over the valley !

So on this note I am sad summer has come to an end officially  but wish you all a Happy Fall and look forward to what the new season will bring !

WOW ! Summer is going out with a BANG !!

Bang of heat that is .  The season is to  officially be fall as of Friday at 4pm but summer just doesn't want to go . It has been hotter and more humid this week so far then it has been all summer here and it is to be this way till well into next week .
Our hummers have gone now and I am seeing lots of Monarchs flutter through our yard as they head south closer to lake Erie on their migration path .
I have been out and about taking the odd photo here and there but mostly keeping in the shade of the patio porch where it is cooler .

The mornings have been humid as soon as the sun rises  , and oh what lovely sunrises we have been having to .
By the afternoons the clouds have rolled by farther up north and have been soo pretty just suspended in mid air .

                                                 Love me some dramatic clouds

And some wild flowers they are all soo lovely this time of year out in the fields !

The milk weeds are slowly bursting with fluffy pods all over the place now .

I was out in the field taking these pics and to my surprise there were two Golden Eagles playing way up in the sky .

Once these huge birds catch air they soar fast !

Seems like after the cool down last week giving us a taste of fall  and the warm up this week of summers heat  some of my flowers in the gardens seem to burst with life again .

Papa and I have been busy with this and that here and there as well We are getting a new furnace put in next week as our old clunker gave up the ghost in the spring , not that we need heat right now  but better to gt it in  and all said and done before the chilly temps set in for fall .

The Turkey Vultures are scoring the land and will be soaring on their migration path fairly soon . The heat has kept  the birds under cover and not much activity at the feeders right now but once the temps drop a bit it will be crazy busy at the feeders .  Miggs is feeling and getting better from her Bone spur injury and has been good at not chasing critters  we go for walks every day  and that we both enjoy then she naps on and off for the day and gets the occasional visit from the pup Tucker next door then after she is tuckered out lol !

Well that's about it for me for now I seem to be only here once a week now oh well such as life eh?!

                                                            Until next time

Changing Of Season

The changing of Season is upon us and I have been taking in all the changes so far . The temps have been chilly  over night already , damp , dewy and foggy in the mornings .

Some birds have migrated south from us  already and others stop over to rest and feed in our yard and trees as we are smack dab in the middle of the migration path for part of the southwestern Ontario migration for both birds and butterfly's . I do so enjoy seeing different breeds of birds  stop here that I haven't seen here before and if I am lucky enough to get a photo of them even better .

All though I don't always get good photos as they are so quick to feast and fly off on their increadable journey . I can identify most but some well .. not so much lol !

The Goldfinch have been feasting in droves here and they love the seeds of the Blue Spruce trees in the back 40 and the seeds from my plants in the gardens I leave untouched for them , saves me on bird seed this time of year to   .

I haven't seen our hummers all day today so I am thinking they have left , I think lots of  our summer birds left earlier then usual due to the terrible storms happening in the south , birds seem to know these things long before we do  .

I was watching this youngster for quite a long time as he pecked and chased bugs about  , a  Juvenile Starling he is and funny to watch .

In just 10 days it will officially be Fall or as some call it Autumn and it seems to be fast approaching here , some leaves on the trees are half changed whilst others still remain green but soon will be full of colours . The land is changing to as is the air and the sun rises later in the mornings and sets earlier in the evenings  and is becoming weaker by day ,  oh the changing of seasons is a wondrous thing really as nature knows exactly what to do  and when and the rewards for us to see are well.. remarkably glorious !

I pray for all those in the south in the storms , both human and animal  !

                                                            Until next time .

Yup Im Still Here

Yup I am still here all though I noticed I haven't done a post since last week OOPS !
I have been busy doing the opposite with my gardens and that's getting them ready for fall , with some plants already done and  ones that the birds wont peck at for food I have cut them back and have been doing some clean up to try to get a head of  it . Our temps have been quite chilly over night and early mornings and dewy , why this morning it was foggy as the sun rose over the valley and only 5C or 41F  BRR !

It was a full moon last night and we only got to see it for a moment but the night before I was able to get pics as it was at 98%  viewing which to our eye looks like  a full moon lol !

Looks eerie  but pretty at the same time night shots like this are hard to take lots of challenge in taking them especially when it is damp out .

All the fall colours in flowers are in full bloom , these are Mums and they are the orange Zest mix  pretty aren't they ?! And of course I have many types of Marigolds that serve in not only the purpose of colour but to keep bunnies out of my gardens as they don't like the smell of the marigolds  , good to use around veggie gardens as it works for both types of gardens  If you see veggie gardens with marigolds around them that's why .

I cant remember the name of this plant I think it is a Sedum well the honey bees love this plant and have been going wild on it lol !

Our Miggs has been doing well from her Bone Spur injury still on her meds but they have been working and I have been able to keep her from chasing critters .. well  mostly she seems to hear the words no leave it a lot more often now but it is for her own good , the cool damp air we have had the past few days really reeks havoc on her old bones , I hear ya on that Miggs same here .

We enjoy our walks and sometimes  two a day now to keep her mobile and it does me good as well .

Saw this little guy in his hidy hole this is Alvin who lives in our 150+ Manitoba maple our big old tree we call it he has been busy gathering seed and such and running to and from his house .

One of the many reasons I love living in a valley close to lake Erie is that we are on the migration path for many breeds of birds and butterfly's . I spotted this little guy with a few other breeds who had stopped over to pick at the birch tree leaves , guess they have the right kind of pickings as they were here for quite a while . This is a White eyed  Vireo  tiny quick little birds and soo pretty .

and this little guy is a  well I haven't been able to identify him as of yet he looks like one type of Vireo and yet he doesn't I do know he is a juvenile just of what breed .

And last but not least , the clouds have been soo pretty this past week and very dramatic looking to . So you see I am still about just taking in all the new sights and sounds of nature as the seasons come to a change and preparing the yard and gardens at the same time lol !

Oh were did the summer go and well ..  Hello   Fall    that is tapping on our door more and more now .
                                                            Until next time .
