Weekend Of This and That!

It is once again Monday morning , for Papa  it’s back to work  BOOHOO ! I like having him home with us  but for me  that means more time to take photos and go for walks  hehe !

Hope you all had a good weekend !

Over the weekend Papa and I  puttered , as well was able to get down to work ! The puttering was Saturday when we woke to very high winds and lots of sideways rain  and no power for a few hours . It was chilly but heck that’s ok we put the wood stove on and all  was toasty and instead of our electric kettle that boils fast we used our old whistle kettle on the gas stove for our tea .  The hydro was back on in a few hours  Saturday was pretty much written off for yard work but we watched movies and browsed the web well Papa did I was reading blogs lol

Then I looked out of the living room window and noticed a big piece of our driveway tree was down .

Fall 2013 (4 of 22)

So as it was windy and still raining I nipped out onto the front porch to get a few photos !

Sunday was a lovely sunny day so we headed outside to take a closer look at the damage of this old tree !

Fall 2013 (12 of 22)

WOW ! it was a huge piece that just snapped off , now to look at the tree from the outside it looks fine but where it snapped and exposed the inside it has all rotted ! No wonder it came down in the high winds it was just a matter of time !

Then as Papa was looking at the entire tree as there are three trunks grown from one base that one of the other trees that branch out form the trunk lol no pun intended there , had a huge crack in it.

Fall 2013 (14 of 22)

And as the wind was blowing the crack was making the tree look like it was breathing as it was moving ! Fall 2013 (13 of 22)

So now we have to get hydro as the tree is over hydro lines and the city to figure out if it is on our property or the guy who owns the field next to us property or the cities , we are kind of hopping it isn't ours as it is expensive to get these big trees taken down and we would do it out selves but it is to close to the hydro wires and best to let the pros do it ! Not that Papa couldn't but still better to get them .

Fall 2013 (16 of 22)

So this week Papa will get a hold of all who need to be contacted  to get this matter sorted out before the tree falls across our driveway and takes all the hydro wires and pole with it  !.

As yesterday was such a nice day we were out finishing up the final garden clean up and now all my gardens are bare and all that needed to be cut back are done .

Fall 2013 (9 of 22)

Then Papa and I did the leaves with his leave blower/mulcher over the entire yard as there were so many more leaves after the wind storm on Sat and then Papa cut the grass for the last time this season !   Our weekend was a bit of puttering ,  being busy in the fresh air and sunshine ,  a bit nerve racking with the winds and fear of the rest of the tree coming down taking out all the hydro lines and relaxing after all was said and done . Pretty good weekend I would say !

Miggs and I are off for our walk now , it is sunny , chilly with fresh crisp air  !

Until next time  ..have a snap happy day !

It's nice that you have wood heat as a back up as well as a gas stove to cook with when the power goes out. We had NB Power take down 4 of our huge pine trees this summer. They had grown into the power line that went into our neighbour's house so they cut them for us. However, they don't cut them up or remove them We had to do that ourselves! Hopefully the power utility there will cut that tree down for you. If it's that rotten then it's a hazard. Have a good day. Blessings, Pam

Saturday was an absolute stinker wasn't it? We trudged to a Home and Design centre to look at some patio doors...the centre doesn't open until Nov 1st!!
Consoled ourselves with some chips/fries in the car,but that was the afternoon gone. Hope you get the tree sorted out soon, it's such a rigmarole having to get Hydro to sort stuff out!

I hope you don't have to pay for the tree to be taken down. If the city does it, are you allowed to keep the wood. That's the way it used to be when we lived in town, and had trees under the power lines. Good luck.

Hi Elaine... Wow that's a big old tree, and the way it comes out from the bottom in three directions "Yikes"!! I agree it would be best if was not on your property!!
Gas stoves and wood stove are life savers for sure : ) I do love mine when the power is out !!
Hope you of to a better week!!

we have a tree that has a split in it - amazingly it holds on year after year. luckily, though, it is leaning away from house and no power lines to interfere with, either.

So glad there wasn't serious damage from the tree-and that no one was standing near it when it broke. It is cold and dreary here today but I've got lots of errands to run.
Hope you stay warm inside and enjoy your day!

Yikes, a tree coming down can cause a lot of damage. Hopefully hydro will decide to cut most of it down to stop it falling on the lines. It is such a shame when a big tree has to come down but if it is causing risk to people it has to go.

Oh boy...that tree just snapped! That's some strong wind. And what a big old tree that is. Sad that it was damaged like that.

Hope you enjoyed your day, and had a chance to take lots of photos!

We have had similar experiences with a couple of trees that used to be in a neighbor's yard and our front yard. The one in the neighbor's yard fell and just missed our gas tank. We had 2 removed from the front yard after seeing how they were bending and coming close to the house in a couple of wind/rain storms.

Hi Elaine...
Missed a few of your posts...
Lovely to see your Indoor Garden...
I have almost everybody inside now...a few stragglers left...will hopefully get them in before the weekend...
Supposed to be very warm on Thursday...but then cold again...
Glad you weren't damaged with the trees coming down...we have a few at the cottage that are living on borrowed time!
Enjoy your week ♥
Cheers!
