Autumn brings to me the smell of the trees and fields . Warm sweaters , sweatshirts , and lumber jackets blankets and cups of hot chocolate or tea . The chilly mornings from the cool night before as the sun rises and reflects off the dew drops and frost on everything in it’s path , to misty mornings hovering over the land and chilly rainy days we stay snug indoors . The sun still holds it’s warmth yet weaker and breezes cool to the feel .
The freshness that the air carries when you breath it in deep. The leaves gently make a rustling sound in the cool breeze as they slowly fall and flow to the ground . The hum of crickets and grasshoppers echo through the woods in the cool crisp air . The sounds of Crows cawing in the distance and Bluejays’s squawking in the trees as the Chickadee’s, Cardinals and Sparrows chirp as they are flapping their wings at the feeders as they all crowd to hang on and eat with glee .
The sound in the distance as one prepares wood for the chilly Autumn nights as the smell of firewood already crackling in fireplaces through out . The smell of bond fires after crispy dry leaves are racked up and jumped in . The hum of a small air plane way up high in the sky as it echo’s in the cool air above , to the sound of a flock of Geese honking as they fly by to land . The last few summer garden and wild flowers hang on to the warmth of the day, whilst butterfly’s , hummers and bee’s busily fuel up on what nectar there is for their big journey across land and seas . For the sound of the last Robin still singing for me.
The colours of the trees all bright with vibrant yellows, reds and orange , cover the woods and country roads and yards for all to see . The sounds of kids playing in the distance and a dog barking to join in the fun . The Squirrels and Chipmunks gathering seeds and nuts to store for the winter .
Bunny’s feeding, filling up on the grass before it gets hidden . To the sound of a lawn mower in the distance as the last cut of the season is done . Farmers tractors traveling from one place to another with the harvest of the year to share with us in their fortune of home grown and good cheer . Porches and lawns decorated with mum’s , pumpkins and Autumn decor .
Going for walks with your family after a hearty warm meal and family get togethers .
The smell of home made baking and cooking wafting through open windows. The Harvest moon shining brightly with an orangey glow on a chilly night as bats whip by as they feed , an owl softly say’s hoohoo indeed!
The tranquil moments as the sun sets earlier each eve !
Sounds of other night creatures raccoons and skunks alike ,all come out in the dark when the rest of land is tucked into bed for the night !
All this and more I see and hear is what Autumn brings to me each and every year !

Frost already!!! I know you are in colder climates but I am not ready for a frost.
Fantastic pictures.
Seems like there's a little frost on the pumpkin in your next of the woods. We're expecting a cold front on Friday, brrrrrrrrrrrr
What a beautiful post. Each picture is prettier than the last.
Simply beautiful, Elaine.. Loved it..
Very nice post. I just wish that we would start getting some Autumn weather here in SoCal. We are still in the middle of summer with triple digit temperatures.
No frost here yet...but lots of signs of fall..
This morning I woke up to the smell of skunk..he must of gotten spooked at the feeder last night.. It was not a pleasant smell.

So many lovely images of Autumn, my favorite season. How cute is that little duck family? Squeeee!
Very nice tribute to fall in photos and words, Elaine. Our temps today were in the mid-80s so no celebrating just yet.
It is such a treat to come here and see all these lovely photos, especially the little critters that go with them.
