Just A Small Post Today !

Box Planter !

Hello all !

The weather here is beautiful , sunny with cool breezes and no humidity . Miggy and I went for our walk early this morning then I cleaned the house ,filled the bird feeders and am now going out on the patio to enjoy the weather and the birds .

Papa is off tomorrow , he took the day off as one of his vacation days and gives him a long weekend WOOHOO !!! He built this box planter for me and put it up , it is between our sheds on the fence where we have a small garden, now this weekend I have to find a plant that prefers mostly shade and will cascade over the planter .

       Anyone have any ideas as to what would look good and take mostly shade there  ? I would really love to hear your suggestions !

                                                  Until next time , hope you all have a great day !

Great looking planter, Impatients are always a good choice for shady areas. They also come in a wide variety of gorgeous colors.

Begonias or impatients would work well. Have a wonderful long weekend.

How fun to plan a flower box!! I think Wax Begonias are a good choice for a shady spot. Begonias can stand the heat of summer, but in the shade they will produce bright blooms and will spill over and down the sides of the box. Lobelia is another beautiful flowering annual that blooms in the shade. The blooms are small, but they are generally very productive and have a great quantity of flowers. Another favorite of mine in the shade is the Fuschia. I loved them when we lived in Alaska--Hummingbirds love them, but be warned that even though they have beautiful blooms, they can sometimes be hard to be successful with. Just a couple of my thoughts--Let us know what you decide on, I know it'll be beautiful!!! :-))!!

Sounds like you got some really good suggestions! A cascading begonia would be really pretty - I don't get to have those because of our terrible winds!! Thanks for linking up with Farm Fresh Friday - we'll take fresh flowers any day!!

Elaine, trailing petunias or are they called wave petunias always look lovely, but not sure how these do in the shade.

If I was a decent gardener I would give you some advice but I'm reading these comments because I need lots of help in this direction :) In case I haven't said it because I just adore the header photo of Miggy. You've caught the light in the eyes, just the most beautiful photo! Have a great weekend!

Hi Elaine...If you want a plant to hang down Vinca vines are great..I prefer the variegated green and white one which you usually can get had even at Walmart. It looks great with regular and New Guinea inpatients, and wax begonias is another!!
The Vinca spreads and will take over the planter so be sure not to put to many plants of it ...I would suggest a couple !! It can hang down over up 2 to 3 ft!!
Good luck : }}
Nice planter !!

Vincas are a great ideal. You won't have to plant them every year like the annual and they are beautiful even when they are not in bloom. Purple passion or the velvet plant would be a great annual vine to mix with the varigated vinca. With that before the freeze, clip some off and start cuttings in the house. Then come spring, you will be ready to add again to the hardy vincas.
Beautiful job!!!
