A Busy Wonderful Weekend

The weather was lovely  , summer like all weekend  , the company on Saturday was awesome the guys worked for a bit replacing our lower roof of the patio porch  shingles , my nephew Colin who is a roofer and has his own company for many years  and Papa who also can and does  roves from time to time  were up there banging about  and whilst they were doing that , myself and Colin's wife Tammy had a grand time chatting and catching up wondering our gardens and so on .  It has been ages since we have seen them , they both run their own business and are very busy young people , they live about a 3 hour drive away north of us  . Miggs was happy to as they brought down their girl Riley and oh my what fun Miggs and Riley had  , she is a cutie  and has  the same character and gentleness as Miggs and they both adored one another .

                         
                                   Every one stopped from time to time to play with the the girls .

 But both Miggs and Riley did a great job at keeping each other busy  and active playing  and sniffing about .

After the guys had done the roof we all chatted laughed at our goofy dogs and played with them on and off then   BBQ  some burgers and had salads with them  for supper and a lovely home made apple pie that Tammy made and brought which that was delish with some ice cream YUMMY !   I took lots of photos  over this weekend that's for sure  lol  .

It was a great day had by all and the dogs had found best friends with in each other  so much they didn't want the fun to end , neither did we but they had a long drive home and it was getting late so we said our goodbys and plan on getting together again soon only this time the guys will not be working just relaxing lol !

Then Sunday Papa did a few more chores about and then by afternoon as he has to work Monday today took a well deserved nap on his hammock under our big old tree .  Miggs to lol !

I then went about and took photos of birds making nests and a exciting and  rare bird for me to be able to capture  whilst Papa was snoozing from his tiring weekend . I will do that post of birds next time  .

The End Of Our Long Weekend

Well that's the end of our Canadian Victoria Day long weekend already . It is the official weekend for gardeners to get planting  and get the gardens all done  here . I am pleased to say I had mine done a few days ago , this time I am ahead of the gardening game WOOHOO ! 
It was a nice quiet long weekend for Papa and I as we just puttered about , cleaned  tidied  and rearranged our sheds and got rid of a lot of stuff  that we had been hanging on for years and not used at all so now there is more room in the sheds to move about and keep things stored neatly for a change lol ! The weather was a mix of sun cloud rain and chilly winds a lot cooler then we are used to for this time of year but nice to work in and have a nice fire going for the evenings to cozy up by either inside or out .  I worked on my little bird house a bit in-between my puttering and finally got my fence edging around our big old tree with the bird house pickets painted .

 They really pop out from the rest of the fence now . I am glad how well they turned out .
Papa is starting on a new garden over in the corner up to the right of the photo but it wont be finished till fall . He has designed it as a corner white  picket fence garden curved on either side and cascading from large to smaller pickets to  a front lower garden and he is calling it the family garden were we will be planting each of our family members  past and present favorite plant /flower   , he has the pickets all cut and ready and the post spike holder's in place in the ground , I will be painting the pickets white  over the next week or two .
This coming weekend Papa is doing our lower patio roof stripping off the old shingles and replacing the back paper and shingles . My nephew  Colin and wife will be coming down as  Colin is a roofer and has had his own roofing  business  for 15 years . Colin said it will take only an hour or two so we will be making it a BBQ day and a visit after they guys have done the roof .
  I am still having problems with Open Live Writer as I use it for my posts then it posts directly to my blog as it is linked in and it has more features which I like  , I have been racking my brain trying to figure out all that could be wrong but haven't found anything yet and read all there is to read about it in forums so , I am trying different methods of a work around to all of it lol !
Well that's it for me for now , hope all my fellow Canadian's had a good long weekend and that all others across the pond had a good weekend as well .

A Bit Of This & That

It has been a beautiful few days weather wise , more summer like then spring and I have been outside loving every second of it in my gardens and watching the birds in between breaks lol !  I am now ahead of the game this year with my gardens as we planted mostly perennials last year and only needed a few annuals for  pots and the odd space . I would usually go to my fave garden center over this long weekend of ours Victoria Day weekend  as it is the weekend that all gardeners in Canada seem to get planting in their gardens  but we went yesterday and now I can sit back this weekend relax and enjoy .

 

 So now we watch it all grow and bloom and watch the butterfly's , bees and birds happily dance around the blooms . 

       Talking about birds our Hummy is feasting like mad at the feeder . He seems to think I am another hummer at times to as he quickly fly's right up to me , so close I can feel the vibration of his buzzing wings and the breeze  with his tail spread out in a fan position  , that means he is ready for the territory fight  lol till I speak to him then he calms down and goes about his feeding again lol !

                                        Such a challenge getting photos of these fast little birds .

             When we went  out yesterday to the garden center I saw this cute mat and just had to get it  .

       Well that's it for us for now . Papa has and extra long weekend off as he booked Tuesday off to so we are just going to putter and enjoy  maybe take a little road trip we'll see lol !

Over The Weekend !

It was a nice and quiet weekend  with lovely sunshine and pleasant temps to all though chilly at a times .  Papa and I just puttered about . Our kids called me for mothers day and we had a nice long chat and they sent me happy mothers day wishes both on the phone and in a Facebook post  so that was nice .  It was a difficult weekend for the family as well as Saturday was my sister Ann’s Birthday and Sunday Yesterday was the day she passed away a year ago  at only 62 so a very emotional weekend to .
On Saturday Papa and I started to paint these little decorative birdie houses that we bought from the dollar out  on the patio table , the painting is done , now we have to stencil  on them as to what we want on them( ie) flowers  , butterfly's and paint them to  they will be all done soon .

 As they were drying Papa went to his work shop to putter about more lol and I took some more photos .

                                 Miggs loves to be with  Papa when he is in his work shop .

                  My first clippings of our Lilacs  this season  MMMM ! They smell wonderful .

                             Mr Rose beak was enjoying his time at the feeder chowing down  .

 As the day and weekend came to an end I decided to take some evening sunset photos as the sun was hiding behind the trees in the back in the west as it slowly sank into the western horizon .

 Not quite what my eyes saw it like  but heck I liked the look of it as it gleams on the leaves and shines through the branches !

                       Then I saw the sun set  light shining on part of  the valley in the east .

 My favorite times of the day this time of year is at sun rise and at sun set , the light is so pretty and gentle as it casts shadows and different colours  across the land .

 Mr and Mrs Cardinal like this time of the evening at sun set  and morning at sun rise to  while they feast as the other birdies are tucked into bed  .
Today the sun is shining as it will be for the week now and the temps are rising to where they should be for this time of year . The gardens are blooming the grass is growing to and Miggs is waiting to go for her walk so I am off to get my day started and hope you all had a lovely weekend and Mothers day yesterday  and a good day today  .
  I had to do this post through blogger template as I use Open Live Writer but it isn't working  properly today  keeps giving the 404 error  so my post set up is different then usual .  Oh well thats the way the cookie crumbles lol !
