Well …. It Is Finally Spring !

Winter is no longer at least here anyways  lol  thank goodness .  It is rainy here today and windy and the temps are chilly but that is our typical spring weather . Early this morning we took the girls to the vet for their yearly check up and shots  , they had lots of attention , treats , cuddles and a clean bill of health . Yesterday was the first day of spring which I was and am very happy about as you all knew that from the last post lol  and even more so cause not only are all our spring birds back but  our little Chipmunk Simon came out from a long winters naps .

MARCH 2015 (8 of 11)

Simon and two of his Grackle friends gobbling up the tid bits under the feeders  .

Early in the morning of yesterday the temps were cold and this big old tree of ours was leaking sap or water from it and it had froze in place . By the end of the day the tree had thawed and was dripping like mad !

MARCH 2015 (3 of 11)

It made for interesting photos and the power of wonder for me lol !

I then heard a sound high in the sky a sound that only Tundra Swans make , sounds a bit  like  a soft whistle or flute  and I looked up and saw the beauty of these birds in the sky as the sun reflected off of their pure white feathers  giving a bit  of a  silver  look to them !

Whilst all our spring  birds have returned these beautiful Swans are flying from one conservation to the other we have in the area fuelling up on grain that is put out for them so they can migrate from our  winter /spring weather to their summer destination . The birds breeding is  along the Artic Ocean coast  and migrate via Canada and the Great lakes  region to winter at the Atlantic coast of the USA, mainly from Maryland to South Carolina, but some move as far south as Florida. Whistling swans as they are also known as  start leaving for the breeding grounds again by mid-March, and arrive by late May. Vagrants have been recorded on the Bermuda, Cuba and  the Hawaii Islands , Puerto Rico , and in England, Ireland  , Japan , north eastern Siberia and Sweden . A long ways away I would say for them to come and go from !

MARCH 2015 (5 of 11)

Papa the girls and I are puttering indoors today as it gently rains out side and melts the rest of the snow we have left , as the birds feast from the feeders chirping and flapping about , Robins  singing in the trees and hedges , bobbing around on the ground pecking at the grassy areas plucking up worms   , as  the Squirrels and Simon the Chipmunk join them at their feeders all soaking wet, busily eating  but happy !

Spring … brings out the best in all of us even when it rains !

                                                                       Until next time .

Miggs and Harley must be glad to put the visit to the Arch Fiend otherwise known as the vet behind them.

I have not yet seen a chipmunk here, and it's been snowing all day!

Great for you that Spring has finally arrived! I see the icicles hanging in there but I'm sure soon there will be flowers and buds and warm sunshine.

We haven't seiner chippy yet, but at our daughter's house in town they are busy running around and teasing their cats :) It will be another cold day tomorrow but then it looks like a nice week to come.

I never thought they'd be that big a difference right here in Ontario. Still lots of snow here, and -19C this morning, though there are signs of spring starting to show up.
