Still Snowing

 

Yup ! Still snowing here but at least the temps are mild and no cold winds . It is so wet and sloppy slushy out there !

Yesterday I took a few videos of the birds , I apologise for the shakiness as I didn't use a tripod and the video camera doesn't have vibration reduction like my camera .

            Turn up your sound and hear what I hear every day  .

Back Yard Birds

The Red Breasted Woodpecker in this video is Charlie he squawks at me like he is talking to me and if I talk to him he answers back !

It can get very noisy with all the birdies here but I love it ! I watch them and study their character

                                           'Next time I will be using a  tripod lol !

                     Feeling a bit under the weather today so going to be a  Pj , blanket on the couch day !

What A Mess !

 

Out side that is . We had high winds lots of rain last night then it turned to heavy snow and then rain and now snow again the wet heavy kind .  The temps are mild and it is so slushy out and deep  if  the temps drop  and it all freezes well ice rinks all over !

                                                                  Thick and slushy for now !

Even poor Miggs didn't know what to do in the  thick wet slush that's all over the yard ! Needless to say we have a wet dog today !

I got an e-mail from Papa this morning as we always send morning e-mails to each other as he leave’s early whilst I am still in bed ,  his normal 20 min drive he said  took him 10 to 15 min longer to get to work because of the roads  and thought a few times of turning back  but of course he just plodded along slowly and made it to work safe and sound !

Well I guess we will just have to stay in get cozy  with the wood stove going and drink cups of tea , I can handle that lol !

I made veggie pasta soup yesterday in the crock pot , lots of it left over so that's what's for dinner again tonight !

Sun Rise Before The Storm

 

It was a hazy sunrise this morning  as low damp cloud linger over the valley the air is crisp and cold  but fresh . The storm that has hit the states is on it’s way here for the afternoon or evening with heavy wet snow and rain .

             

                        Miggs and I are going for our walk and I will fill up my birdies feeders !

Evening Moon

 

I was making supper at about 5:30 pm yesterday , looked out the window as I always do looking for photo ops lol and saw the moon . I grabbed my camera turned things on the stove down a bit and went out to get photos !

The sun was setting in the west and the moon  rising in the east , the sun set created a pink hue with in the clouds surrounding the moon  over our valley!

 

As Papa was driving to work  earlier this morning he said the moon was huge and orange and just above the horizon  I couldn't see it as I was lower  then  he was at the time and he was on a open road with flat fields around him ,  DARN IT ! That would of been awesome to capture and Papa didn’t have a camera in  the van . BOOHOO !

The sun is setting later and later every day  and rising earlier as well and the temps are warming up more and more .

Today it is to be  with cloudy period’s Temp +3 °C  or 34 °F Not to bad , at least the sun will be shining  and I am getting the spring cleaning  itch  and most of our signs of spring are already here  !

                          Well that's all for today  off to have my tea as it is 6:45 am .

Sunday Spotlight

 

                    Tundra Swans in flight preparing for their spring migration .They fly in large flocks over our house every fall and spring it is a beautiful sight and sound , some are low enough you can hear the wind through their wings  ! I usually hear them before I see them  as they have a distinct honk that echo's in the sky's coldness !

       More  Tundra Swans in spring flight but if you look closely there is one that's just not like the others !

                                Yup there is a Canadian Goose flying with them !

I Got Goodies !

 

Well ,  Papa went grocery shopping yesterday cause it is on his way home from work and not only did he get groceries he also walked in with these  much to my surprise I didn’t expect at all !

A new microwave and an egg poacher !

I had been looking for a decent egg poacher for ages and couldn’t find one till I saw this in a flyer we get in the mail and I wanted a new microwave as mine was old 26 years old and it was the old stationary inside didn’t rotate  and I just got tired of it’s ancient look  also didn't really go with anything else stuck out like a sore thumb lol, both of these items were on sale at Canadian Tire  so Papa bought them as part of my early B-day gift , oh I love new toys lol !

We had a snow storm , rain and ice sleet yesterday , the weather today is gloomy but very mild . The nature here is still telling me spring is around the corner though !

Perfect Day Yesterday !

 

The sun was shinning and the sky was a brilliant blue  the winds were calm . All the birdies were busy fluttering around chirping and singing like crazy . The Goldfinch are  now singing their song again and so is the male Cardinal , the birdies are far more active now that spring is creeping up !

                                       So I went out in the yard for a few hours and took photos .

                                               Buds on my Lilac bush telling me spring is in the air !

                          The Goldfinch were flying form tree to tree just a chirping and singing  !

                                                  Miggs enjoying the sun and fresh air !

                                        Lots of eating being done with this little fellow  .

                                 This little White Breasted Nuthatch was checking me out !

                                                         Trees are budding as well !

                                                Icicles drip with the warmth of  the sun  !

                                 Little Juncos every where scooping up the seed from the ground !

                                                            Mr Dove getting his  lunch !

Patches of snow melting here and there and the green of grass reminds me spring is near !

I had a great time out there yesterday just watching and listening to the birdies , playing with Miggs and soaking up some rays from the sunshine that is getting stronger  and now the sun is setting a bit later each and every day ! 

           It may not feel or seem like spring is close but nature tells a bit of a different story  each day ! You just have to look , listen and smell the air .

Look ! It’s The Easter Bunny !

 

Well spring must be around the corner for the Robins came back last week , the male Cardinal is now singing his mating song and now  these little guys The Eastern Cottontail we only ever see them appear when it is spring time  or close to it .  Apparently they don't hibernate but we never see them in the winters .

The wildlife ( National Geographic ) people say that in winter, their diet becomes a bit coarse and consists of bark, twigs, and buds  looks like our little guys  love sunflower seeds .

Sneaking up for a snack he was ! Even in the summer they are under the feeders munching on seeds !

The wildlife( National Geographic ) people also say they don't nest in burrows or holes but in  shallow ground nests  , again not these Eastern Cottontails they burrow under our sheds and then after a few weeks we see tea cup size babies appear out from under the sheds like this little guy last spring  .

We have to  live trap  quite a few every year and relocate them in the woods far away as we can get taken over  by them !

As he was sitting up there snacking he  was watching me out of the corner of his eye the entire time as to what and where I was going and how close he would allow me to get , some of the bunnies here let us get with in a foot of them and others not so close !

They drive Miggs mad as they sit there and dare her to chase them  last year she was right on top of them in the chase and I think they realized just how fast this dog  really is and she can zig zag  just like they do so they have competition here with Miggs ! We do tell her no cause they don't hurt anything here and they are nice to look at and have around and I have know idea what Miggs would do to one if she ever caught it ! Papa and  I laugh and say she would probably just play with it roll it over a few times with her paw and try to pick it up and bring it in and introduce it to her other toys  like her teddy and hedge hog  lol one can only ever hope that’s what would happen !

Sunrise Shadows

 

The sun rise shone a lovely soft golden colour through our windows and cast lots of  morning shadows .

The temps and winds have that bitterly cold snap to them but the sun shining in is warm and welcoming !

We are to be getting flurries later so that means cloud  and our sunshine will be gone . I will enjoy the warmth and glow of  the sun shining in and it’s casting of shadows as long as it allows me .

Mixed Weather & Our Kitchen

 

The weather here today is mild , cold , windy, rainy, damp and yes even snowy  a mixed bag of all sorts . The snow is slowly melting and it is a sloppy mess out there !

At least this year we have had lots of moister from snow and the rains so our gardens and grass should be good to go this spring .

Papa has been slowly building my little pantry beside my fridge . We had to take a bit of the counter and cupboards out to move the fridge over as it was crammed in by the wall and I couldn’t open it all the way to clean it properly and I wanted a  pantry with high  deep shelves in it !

This old farm house was built in 1895 and this  kitchen is the original and it is a perfect size for us ! All we did was re paint it 2 years ago !

Eventually I would like the  rest of the old cupboard doors replaced to look like this one that Papa built and made in pine and put my favourite old farm house handle on . To get that lovely honey colour  and to protect the wood as well he shellacked it as it is also a sealer . He still has to make the other door for the bottom of the pantry but needs more material .  He did such a good job . I love it !

I am not much of a kitchen dweller lol but I like the old farm house cozy  mix matched look !

A Typical Saturday !

 

Not much going on but the usual but that’s ok I like the usual .  Papa is in his shop working on a project Miggs is just hanging around , we went for our walk this morning Harley well not much even less then anyone lol  and the birds are happy fluttering , feeding and chirping and the critters munching keeping and eye out for Miggs as  the sun shines .

                                It is a long weekend for us here as Monday is Family day .

        

Looks like I am going to have to fill those feeders again ! I fill them every two days and that's all 12 feeders !

                                I like these little Juncos ! They will be filling up to Migrate soon !

                                  Mr Squirrel stuffing his cheeks as he keeps and eye out for Miggs !

Notice how there are no little birdies around lol This is one of the crows who hangs around here , this is either George or Margret it’s hard to tell as they all look alike lol ! They like the peanuts !

              Mr Cardinal hiding from me and my camera ! They are so skittish this year !

               Well that’s all  about what’s going on here for the day , put laundry in the mix and puttering that’s  just the typical Country Cove Crew Saturday’s !
