Recover is long but well worth it - we didn't use the physical therapy as one vet suggested but found a vet that would do the surgery for less but still substantial. Ironically just a few years later the dogs best bud (our son) had ACL knee surgery as a senior in high school. -- Good luck Miggy!Leahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18138747690602990437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351405029101697801.post-53527816031971635532011-02-15T12:29:18.699-05:002011-02-15T12:29:18.699-05:00blogger sucks. they erased a comment prior to the ...blogger sucks. they erased a comment prior to the first one. sigh....poor miggy, i know the feelings of frustrations you are going thru. i would go to an ortho and not blink an eye. they do this type of surgery daily. i always remember 'you get what you pay for'. not knocking the local vet but if she doesn't specialize and hasn't done larger dogs which are a different ball game then why take the chance for a botch up that will cost more later. nobody goes to a general doc for knee surgery so miggy should see the ortho. nugget went thru 2 acl's (tta in vet terms) and came out very well. he is on deramaxx which hasn't the negative effects of the liver or kidneys as rymadel. the ortho gave me a really neat little 'fabric lift' that helped him walk and go up and down steps. it was made of fleece on one side. its shape is alarge rectangle with a large fabric adjustable handle on each side. i would wrap it under his stomach area near the hips and lift him up off the ground a tiny bit to help him go up steps and navigate his walking. if you cannot find one, get a long thin towel. since it is in his knees then place the towel next underneath those front legs and that should do the trick. ortho's should have those neat little lift things...good luck and sorry this is sooo long! i love animals and do hope your miggy comes thru this just fine!Kritter Keeper at Farm Tailshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12289022593889972949noreply@blogger.com
