So far the weather has turned cold cloudy with sunny periods and bits of snow flying about here and there but no accumulation thankfully , then we have had rain and thunderstorms over the nights so much up and down its confusing for everyone .
I have now noticed why my feeders have been more quiet then normal . I thought it was from feral cats lurking about but Miggs keeps them at bay mostly then I thought the transition of migration maybe why as it had been in the past but then I saw this fellow from my window in the back garden, oh so that's why I said to myself .
Mr Hawk has been hanging about pegging off my birdies from the feeders and has been using our yard as his buffet , why just the other day I saw him fly by swoop in and land on the ground snapped up a bird and take off with it in his talon's , it all happened so fast , circle of life I know and Mr Hawk has to eat to but it still makes me feel bad for the little birds .
As he took off , all stayed quite for a bit , then the other birds felt it was safe again and came back to feed on the ground .
They all are keeping an eye on the sky’s now I tell ya .
It is the month of wacky weather , returning birds , time change one hour ahead , more day light and the return of spring , WOOHOO ! so regardless of what mother nature has to throw at us this month of March and whether it roar's in like a lion and goes out like a lamb or vise versa I find it is still the most exciting month of all new and returning things to come .

We lost a little one last week. I have to say, Elaine, I don't like hawks.
ReplyDeleteI'd say coming in like a roaring wet lion for sure. It is sunny today but the wind is making it so cold.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking the other day that we haven't seen the hawk around much this winter, probably because the fields have been bare a lot and he has been snacking up there. Stay warm.
It might be time to stop with the feeder now, even with the colder temperatures.

ReplyDeleteIt came in a bit like a lion here, perhaps as cold as any part of winter, which was quite bracing after some mild weather.

ReplyDeleteWhen living in VA, I heard a cardinal making very loud noises near our feeders. When I checked all that was on the ground were feathers indicating that a hawk had found its prey. It's nver nice when feeder birds become easy targets for these predators.
