A SETTING MOON

This morning I saw out the back of Our Country Cove the Moon setting in the distance . I photograph sunrises, sunsets and moon rise but never to many moon sets . So I was up in our hall window up stairs removed the screen and took photos of the moon setting in the west !

It is a sunny morning but the temp is cold -5°C or 22°F and windy ! No snow still on the ground but I see that might change come the weekend a few flurries I don't think it will accumulate at all I hope !

Reflections & Silhouette

As I was cleaning my kitchen after supper I looked out my kitchen window and saw a beautiful moon shining down on Our Country Cove. I had an idea and got my camera ,went up to our room and took some photos of the moon through our bedroom window .

The reflection of the moon on the window makes it look like two moons !

I like the silhouette of the window in the moon light of these photos !

Then I went outside and took this photo !

It is a crisp ,cold and clear night out !

A Quiet Day And A Bit Of Regret

Not much going on here at our Country Cove , Papa is at work and Miggy and I just came back from our walk. The weather is sunny but has a cold wind blowing . I try to post every day if I can but there are days where not much is happening . I am still on the recovery of my bladder infection a bit sore in my muscles around the area but at least now I can get out and about .

Here's something I haven't mentioned or shared with you all before , I don't drive , I can, just not legally. When I was on our Hobby farm as a kid I was driving everything from cars, trucks, tractors and even the odd combine , back in those days on the back country roads all unlicensed people got away with driving. My parents and I then had to move as the hobby farm was getting to much for my parents and I to run as my dad worked out side the farm as well to make ends meet . We moved to what was once a farming town that grew and grew to a large city and I didn't need a licence then cause there was transit, cabs and all was close that I needed but now I am back in the country cause I do love the country and it is in my blood . I haven't got my drivers licence and at 46 I think it is to late and a bit embarrassing as well as we have a graduating system to go through before you can be fully licenced to drive on your own . I had a learners permit when I was a teen, back then there was no graduating system in place you took your test and that was that you either passed or failed . I went for the driving test in my mums yellow Doge Colt we called buttercup and I was failed

WHY !

cause the instructor truly was a big guy and to heavy for the car he should have been a truck instructor and I could not manoeuvre the car properly and every time I made a turn to the right the poor car would grind and the wheel would sink into the wheel well on his side of the car the car weighted maybe about 1600 LBS. it was a small car the instructor must of been 400 LBS. he couldn't even get the seat belt around him or barely get in and out of the car , so because of all that he failed me and there fore had discouraged me to getting my licence and boy oh boy was my mum angry at it all as she was there watching me. So I don't go many places unless Papa is driving . I have been thinking about it but these days the nutters that are on the roads make me nervous and even as a passenger I get ticked at the stupidity of them .

Part of the reason why I may not post every day ! But I do my best by walking our village and our back yard to get photos and on the odd occasion when Papa and I go somewhere to share with all of you. Ok I am done rambling on here .

I just need to buck up the courage and go for it don't I

Nice Spring Like Day !

It is 3 pm here as I write this with the sun shining and the odd cloud here and there and the temps are mild and the air smells and feels clear. Miggy and I just came back from our walk . No snow left just green and brown grass with the odd new bud waiting to burst.

Whilst on our walk the birds were chirping and singing as it echoed in the air and through out the woods that surround Our Country Cove . A bark of a dog in the distance , as the smell of a bond fire passes me and trees rustling in the breeze . I was watching hawks gliding high up in the blue sky so far away . The sounds and sights of the country and woods are my type of music and movie I like to see and hear for nature is now sensing spring is in the air . As the sound of Papa working in his wood shop to the crows squawking high in the tree tops, to the sound of a small air craft flying in the distance, as we return from our walk we sit , watch and listen, as I dream into the sights, sounds and smells of the country and woods I would never want to be missin !

Feeling Better

I would like to thank all of you for your kind comments and support .

I had to go to the hospital cause I was in to much pain more like to stubborn lol had tests done and found out I had a bladder infection. I had thought it was all my lumbar muscles in my lower back that I had pulled and may have pulled them as well but the Dr told me that can sometimes happen with the muscles in the back around the bladder when it is infected. I could hardly walk , sit or lay down it was tuff on me but more so on Papa who has been my rock right from the beginning , waiting on me hand and foot taking time off work to look after me , I am a lucky Gal to have such a wonderful hubby.

This is the first time I have ever had this . I am on medication for the pain and to get rid of the infection and am slowly on the mend !

I cant believe it is February already. The weather here is mild and no snow , what snow we had last week is all gone . The birds are chirping away and very happy with the weather . I am now on the hunt to either see or hear our Robins back !

I am looking forward to SPRING that's for sure !

Out Of Commission

Well I wont be posting for a bit as I have hurt my back. Yesterday was a nice sunny day , Miggy and I went out side to play and I reached down to pick up her toy and SNAP !!! went my back . I could barley move . I had to get in the house take of my boots and what not and call Papa at work . I have torn my lumbar muscle on my lower right side the muscle that keeps your upper body straight and moving. I can barley walk let alone sit . I am typing this faster then ever here as sitting causes pain. So I am now literally a couch potato with hot water bottle and heating pad and Papa waiting on me hand and foot yesterday and rushing to get his work done today to get home to look after me again today . He has been so wonderful . So R&R for me for a few days .

Isn't getting older fun sometimes ! lol !

Nice Weekend & Weird Weather

We had a nice weekend despite the weird weather. Our youngest son James came down with my sister in law and family as they just live around the corner from each other , our oldest son David couldn't make it he had to work . Saturday we had a family get together at my in laws . Lots of good food it was a buffet and we had lots of laughter and chatting up storms . It was good to see every one .

Talking about storms .The weather has been really weird . Yesterday it snowed a little bit and it was windy and cold, but today we had a snow storm all day and even a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning in the snow storm. That has been the second time I have seen lightning and heard thunder in the middle of a snow storm !

Papa and I filled the bird feeders early this morning , a good thing to . If your a bird person like me watch and study them have you ever noticed they have a feeding frenzy before a storm ? And that they did !

James went home with my sister in law and family as well before the snow storm started and had to travel north east 2 hours drive the storm was coming up from the south west from lake Erie so they were a head of it , thank goodness !

The snow storm started at noon and just finished and it’s now 8pm . It is that wet and heavy snow, if it was light fluffy snow it would be deeper then it is . It was so windy we couldn't see across the street the snow was blowing around so much being as heavy as it is . We must of got at least 4 inches today.

Every time Miggy went out she would run with her nose in the snow like a shovel then would roll in it and come up looking like this !

Dark Dismal Day

Yesterday it was freezing rain and today its snow mixed with a sleet , it’s dark , cold and just plain YUK out there !

Miggy still insists on being out side and this is what she does when I ask her if she wants to come in !

This means no I don't want in mum , she lays down right after I ask her. That’s her old puppy bed on the left , she still likes to curl up in it outside even though she is to big for it under the porch and watch the action in the yard and nod off ever now and then !

I took these photos in a different light setting on my camera to try to get the affect of how gloomy it is !

Some of the birds look soggy ,whilst eating breakfast ! I wonder if they make birdie rain coats lol !

I love playing around with the camera’s light setting ! There are birds on the feeders in the photo below !

Looks like I need to fill my feeders again . The snow has thickened up as it is falling and as I am writing this so maybe it will brighten up a bit later !

A Leaky Ceiling

last week we had a leak in our laundry/mudroom ceiling ! It wasn’t a bad leak but a leak none the less. so Papa pulled the ceiling down and checked it out ! Found where it was coming from. He figured that the heat and cold return in the roof was causing moister build up on the outer wall and that caused the leak and it didn’t have a proper vapour barrier !

So Papa tore all the old insulation and plastic and some wet boards and let it dry out for a few days .

Empty kitty liter buckets come in handy !

This farm house was build in 1895 ya never know what was used in the buildings in those days!

After all that Papa put a new vapour barrier in ,new insulation , plastic and sealed it all up again and looks like new and no more leaks !

Weird Weather & Planning Gardens

Today it is raining, quite heavy at times and we even had a few thunder claps early this morning . The snow is almost all gone and the temp is to reach 10 °C or 50 °F Spring like that is for us. The rest of the week is to be mild during the day but drop at night. If it drops tonight that makes for black ice on the roads. The poor birds in our yard don't seem to know what's going on and seem to be quite confused with this on and off again winter spring like weather.

I received my flower catalogues and since it is a rainy day today I will go through them and start planning my gardens and day dream of spring and summer !

Healthy Girls

Its a nice sunny day today , not to cold at all . The weather is to warm up again next week ! The weather has been a combination of winter and spring each week, very odd for where we are in Canada !

We took the girls ,Miggy and Harley to the vet for their yearly check up and shots . The vet was very impressed with their health , said they are in great condition . Some of you may remember my posts I did when Miggy had her reconstructive knee surgery last Feb and posts of her recovery, well her knee is 150% the vet said when she felt it she couldn't even tell the different between the two and that it has heeled remarkable well . Both have good clean ears , clean teeth, clean skin and fur and bright eyes and good strong hearts . Just need to cut their intake of food a bit more as both put on a bit of weight but nothing to seriously to worry about ! So Papa and I are pleased our girls are healthy and happy !

I thought this was cute . Papa’s shed sign letters had fallen off and he hasn't had the time to put them back on, it did say Papa’s Tool Shed as you can see vaguely the out line , now it says

The weather has been very windy and cold 10 to 16 below with the wind chill and with the odd snow flurry BRRRR !

I have been playing around with my camera on different settings to try to capture the blowing falling snow , I used to use the sport setting but I now use my F stop at 4.5 and shutter speed at 1/1600 the shutter speed is faster , captures and stops movement faster and gives a better affect !

Wood stove is roaring away this morning , the sun is rising with a pink orange glow through the big puffy clouds and I have a nice hot cup of tea and all cozy and warm with my girls !

MIGGY MARATHON !

Yesterday was a mild day but a bit gloomy . Miggy and I went for our walk and played in the back yard well she played I photographed.

I tried a different setting on my camera for Miggy’s photos , I used to use sport but I find I prefer this setting. I set my shutter speed up to 1/1600 and turned down my F stop to 4.5 and kept my other setting on continuous with all these set like this I was able to get better stop motion photos as the shutter speed is twice as fast. This is thanks to Papa’s suggestion . I am still learning my camera and all it and I can do !

Not only did these camera settings stop her in motion better it also captured the snow flying from her playing !

A Winter Sunrise

I just love photographing a sunrise in the winter . The air is so crisp ,clear and cold and the sunrise colour appears different then a summer sunrise because of the cold air !

Still dark as it was slowly rising ! The camera doesn't do justice to the colours in the sky here !

I couldn’t believe how beautiful the colour was !

As the sun was rising each time the sky looked slightly different !

These two photos may look the same but are not . The sun is slightly higher in the photo below ! I could of taken time laps photos but that would be way to many photos of what can look like the same thing but is not ! Does that make sense ? lol

Today is going to be a nice day and the temps are to go up two degrees above freezing , with the sun out even with a little wind that is a perfect day to be out on this winter day !

So off I go now to feed my birds , take Miggy for a walk and enjoy the day !

I am surprised at how well these photos turned out considering I took then as we were moving and through the windows.

It was very cold yesterday wind chills of minus 17 , today it isn't as cold and its sunny , the rest of the week is up down , rain, warm , cold weather is really out of whack this year !

Yup , the name of this town is TEETERVILLE !

Road Trip , Part 1

PHOTOGRAPHING FROM A MOVING VEHICLE !

This morning Papa , Miggy and I went for a road trip. It was snowing a bit when we left. I just sat back and took photos .

Oh boy ,Oh boy Road Trip !!!

One lane bridge !

We were in Six Nations territory and their live stock is Bison !

With the blowing snow and moving vehicle photos were challenging !

One lane bridge again !

We stopped here but I didn't get out as you see it was blowing snow and it is cold today with that wind chill making it feel like its minus 17 BRRRRR ! They were watching us !

This time I said to Papa I am bringing my camera in case I see some photo opportunities ! I think some of these photos worked out pretty good on a fly by lol

I have more photos for tomorrow part 2 . We had a good road trip and I had fun photographing but we are glad to be back home !

SNAP !!!! Winter Blizzard !

Well it is blowing a blizzard out there this morning . It is 7 : 30 am and the winds are howling and roaring, snow is flying around drifts piling up and the temps are down right biting cold ! The kind of winter we are used to in Ontario Canada not the spring like weather we have been having for January !

The beginning of the week was sunny and warm , yesterday was chilly and rainy and today a winter blast WOW ! mother nature is all over the place this year !

Snow blowing like crazy across the street ! It is hard to get photos of blowing snow let alone in the dark lol .

Rainy Chilly Day = Pain

It is rainy and chilly today and it is killing me ! See rainy chilly days reek havoc on my body . I did a post a while back about feeling like I had been beaten up every day and bruised with no see able bruises and no energy what so ever it even hurt to breath at times. I went and got x rays to rule out Rheumatoid Arthritis and Arthritis I also had blood work done . The x rays showed I have inflammation in my joints the blood work came back my B12 was dangerously low my body just isn't absorbing B 12 or enough of it, we need B12 for our bodies to make new red blood cells, well mine was running with what was left which wasn't much and not making any new ones so my muscles were basically starving hence the chronic pain ! I am on a high dose of B12 now but the rainy chilly days still take there toll. I will be going back at the end of the month to get my B 12 checked . I have been feeling much better in the good weather we had been having but for today I am hobbling around like an old crow in my jammies and doing what I can !

Now on to better things !

Papa’s Harvest Table Work

Papa is slowly getting the harvest table done as he can only do it in the evenings and on weekends.

I took some photos of him the other evening sanding the old finish off of the legs on the lathe !

The first photo was on sport setting of my camera then the rest of the photos I put it on a high ISO the camera took the photos so fast it stopped the motion of the lathe better then sport ! Still learning !

I will be following Papa with my camera here and there as he refurbishes , rebuilds and refinishes this Harvest table !

Miggy and I were outside most of the day yesterday as the weather was sunny and fairly warm. I decided to get my camera and take photos of what ever caught my eye !

I like taking photos of the sky with clouds and trees in the photos !

There is just something about this white tree I find fascinating !

This scene is at the top of our valley, I see this every day out my kitchen window !

A hawk riding the wind current searching for lunch !

The clouds had a purple hugh to them in this photo and the Pine cones are huge on this straggly tree , the tree must be close to 100 feet tall !

One of my Lilac bushes starting to bud already. I took these photos with different coloured blurred out back grounds !

This is what Miggy was doing as I was taking photos ! Snoozing in the sun !

A Miggy Tuesday

Well , its Miggy everyday here lol. We still have no snow and none left from what we did get last week and it feels like spring every now and then. I like it cause Miggy and I can get out for our walks every day and play in the yard ! The temps haven’t been to bad it ranges during the day from + 1 to + 5 and sunny , it does drop during the nights though !

Over The Horizon

I was making supper and looked out the kitchen window and saw this beautiful moon just coming up over the horizon , so I stopped what I was doing cause I had to get photos !

The moon and sky looked awesome. It was soo quiet the air was crisp and clear and beautiful and seemed a bit eerie all at the same time .

Harvest Table

Papa is busy in his wood working shop rebuilding and refurbishing this harvest table for a guy at his work. This guy was going to throw it out but his wife said no not to throw it out so he asked Papa if he can bring it back to life.

The table had a lot of dings in it and the hardware was in rough shape. Papa striped the top and one leaflet , filled the holes and sanded them smooth to perfection, he is working on the other leaflet as well as rebuilding the table with new hardware . After all this he will stain and or shellac it and it will be as if it was just freshly hand made !

These are the leaflets. The dark on the left is the old finish before Papa worked on it the one on the right Papa striped and sanded !

It used to have lots of dings and holes in it and was the same colour as the leaflet above on the left !

Planning the wood for parts of the hardware for the table !

I cant wait to see this Harvest table completed. It will take Papa about a week or so !

I will be taking photos of the Harvest table when it is all completed !

Mild Days

The weather is so mild 6°C or 43°F with sun and cloud , most of the snow is gone it feels like spring . Even poor old Mr Snowman is melting away !

This morning Papa and I went grocery shopping . We usually put Miggy in her cage as she suffers from separation anxiety and takes us leaving out on our things , well we put her cage up with the door of it open and let her roam the house . I expected to come home to a mess , it wasn't as bad as I thought, she took a few things but never chewed them up like she used to ! So that was good for us and her , we are slowly trying to get her to realize that Mama & Papa will always come home !

I think she was eating the snow off of Mr Snowman !

Notice how he has one arm now lol ! I am sure the other one will be removed or fall off as he melts . Poor Mr Snow man is even less now !

A Fun Day In The Snow

It was a perfect warmish day yesterday. Miggy and I went for our walk , came back fed the birds and played in the yard in the snow . The snow is slowly melting as the temps are warming up we can see lots of green grass now YUK ! that means muddy paws again ! The sun is just rising now and it is to be a partly sunny day with temps of about 3°C or 39 F That to me is perfect not to cold at all .

Miggy and I yesterday built a Mr Snowman it was fun I hadn't done that since I was a lot younger . The funny thing was after I gave him his arms and went to the house to get some cloths for Mr Snowman Miggy had taken off with one of his arms , wish I had my camera for that it was funny. I used a carrot for his nose Miggy loves carrots and mixed nuts for his eyes and mouth, I did how ever take photos of Miggy and her friend Mr Snowman !

I think all Miggy was thinking about was chewing on his arm lol !

She has the look on her face as if to say ! “ AWE , MUM DO I HAVE TO SIT HERE “ ?

All I want to do mum is chew his arm PLEEEASE !!!!!!!

Is this going to take long ? I’m bored !!! Ok you can go now Miggy good girl !

Update : Mr Snow man still has his arms , for now lol

Ok just looked out the window I stand corrected Mr Snowman is now missing an arm his face and is slowly melting lol Poor Mr Snowman !

A Miggy Marathon

Final chapter

Miggy is soo funny when she is out playing in the snow. She loves to show off when I have the camera in my hands !

The weather has been nice and sunny and the temp hasn't been to bad , again its how you dress for it ! The past few days Miggy and I have been outside for a few hours . I am sweating by the time I come in all bundled up, I feel like when I was a kid all bundled up in my snowsuit barley able to move lol and yes I made sure I went potty before I put all my winter gear on lol !

Miggy gets covered in balls of snow because of her long fur ! She pulls them off !

Always shows of for the camera !

You can tell Miggy really loves the snow and performing for the camera ,for me that makes her my best photo subject I still have tons of photos of Miggy from the other day . I set my camera on continuous and some shots look the same but they aren't cause the camera captures each and every different movement no matter how little the movement is .

I also took photos of the winter scenery and birds that will be my next posts !

A Miggy Marathon

part 1

Yesterday was awesome, at first it was cloudy and a bit of snow blowing around then after a bit the sun came out and the temperature wasn't to bad if ya dressed for it , so that I did.

The second Miggy went out the door she was in the snow face first just a snuffling and shovelling with her nose . She loves the snow and to be photographed and the birds were active feeding and the scenery was so pretty , we had a great time 316 photos later !

I still find it hard to get some photos in snow with out over exposure due to the brightness of the snow . Especially when the sun pops in and out and the lighting is constantly being changed I have to be quick with my camera settings , sometimes it works and some times it doesn't OH WELL !!

Miggy loves to shake her rope , I tell her to shake shake or shake it and she does ! Then ya see nothing but ears and fur flying all over lol !

Miggy is my best photo subject especially for action photos !

Snow, Snow, Snow

Well I wanted snow and Holly Molly we have it now ! It started snowing yesterday afternoon at 2 pm and is still snowing a lot and hasn’t let up yet.

These photos are from yesterday as it started !

It is to the point now where you can barely see the trees with all the snow that's falling !

I guess now we are back to being the great white north eh !

These are todays photos in the morning it has been snowing all night ! It has been snowing so hard I cant get a photo of the back yard

Pretty deep considering we had a dusting as of noon yesterday ! Must be about a foot deep now !

It hasn't let up yet and its 8 am so needless to say I think we are in it for good now !

Now I can get out there when it stops snowing so hard and get winter photos WOOHOO !

Gone To The Birds

It has finally stopped raining . All though it is now cold and the wind has a bite to it , we have a little dusting of snow and the sun keeps peeking out every now and then. The clouds are dark here and there but it makes for good photos !

I bundled up , looked like the Michelin man and headed out to fill the feeders and take bird photos ! I have a total of 16 feeders there are suet's, oil sunflower seeds , wild bird seed with fruit and peanuts !

We have so many Blue Jays around and they are hogs ! Papa built this bird feeder for me during the Christmas holidays !

Tundra Swans. Theses beautiful birds migrate here for the winters . I am yet to get close ups of them !

We have two Downey Woodpeckers living in our trees !

This photo all I did was change my camera setting to white out the back ground !

Juncos are so cute !

Our Red Bellied Woodpecker we named Charlie . He some times comes down to have peanuts ! He talks to me all the time I am out there ! This is the tree he lives in behind Papa’s work shop.

I just love the nature we have here , to be able to capture them in a photo ! To be out there camera in hand surrounded by all kinds of birds is awesome !

First Morning of 2012

Happy New Year !

Hope every one had a nice New Years Eve. Papa , myself and fur babies had a nice quiet evening !

I got up this morning, put the kettle on and replaced last years calendars with this years . Whilst I was waiting for the kettle I saw a nice sun rise just starting so I went out and took photos of the First New Years Day sunrise of 2012 ! Yup Papa and Miggy were still snoozing !

I love the orangey glow of a sun rise !

These dark clouds were behind me and the sun was shining on the trees I thought it was a great scenic photo !

We haven’t see much sun for the past week , it has been cloudy and rainy !

Well looks like no sun today either all those big black clouds in the back are now upon us and have hidden the sun ! Oh well ! Maybe sun shine another day !

Today I am spending the best part of the day taking down the Christmas decorations !

Well, what little snow we got has now gone. It is all mucky and muddy out there, not good for us when Miggy loves to be outside during the day, she gets covered in it and the worst thing is she will roll in it YUK!! she truly is a country scruff lol.

They say we will be getting a fare bit of snow on Monday. I hope we do , I prefer snow to mud lol

My Mum ,Dad ,Harley and I are ringing in the New Year at home where it is nice and quiet away from the crazies on the roads they say !

A Snowy Evening !

Remember how I said in my last post that we don't have any snow, well we do now ! It started at about 5pm . It was beautiful, such big soft snow flakes and the temperature was so mild and all was so quiet you could hear the snow falling. This is my favourite type of snow fall . So Papa and I went out and took some night time snowy photos ! Its almost 10 pm and it’s still snowing !

Miggy loves the snow !

I love how the street light gives off a orange glow in my photos !

Still No Snow !

We still have no snow here in the so called great white north, I think they better drop that idea calling it that now lol ! Mother Nature is a changing ! but we had a great Christmas. It comes and goes so fast doesn't it ? The kids are back to their neck of the woods now continuing with their daily lives. It was great to see them. All was full of good food , laughter , memories and gifts !

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

Christmas Break

Today is Papa’s last day of work , he gets all next week off WOOHOO !!!!

Our daughter Leila made it down for a few days from University up north A long train and bus ride for her !

This year the kids wont be able to see each other ,when David and James get here Leila will have gone as she is traveling more to be with other family! David and James can only stay for a day as David has to work , At their ages they are busy with their own lives . They all will be down here again in the spring & summer. They chat via Facebook so they are always in touch with each other and call us on the phone from time to time or e-mail us.

Papa brought this nice Christmas fruit basket from work, they give all their employees a choice of a ham, turkey or a fruit basket !

My Childhood Christmas Memories

I was looking through some old photos and found photos of myself as a little girl at Christmas time and my family.

This is in our kitchen on Christmas day eve in our bungalow on our hobby farm ! My mum to the right left is my sister and beside her is my brother and me in the high chair ! Dad took the photo !

This is me in England one Christmas with my Nana . Nana passed some 25 years ago !My mum always told me for every angel that leaves us there's another angel born ! I believe that to this day !

My dad always called me little miss muffit or Lainey . Here with me is my brother Peter I called Petey pooh lol and my sister Ann I called Anny panny. I remember a lot of wonderful Christmas’s from my childhood .

My Child hood Christmas Memories

part 1

I have a lot of wonderful Christmas memories as a I was growing up but the one I love the most was back in 1972 I was 5 years old when my dad made tracks in the snow Christmas eve for me to wake up to and see Christmas morning !

We lived on a hobby farm in a county called Caledon . It was all beautiful farm land, rolling hills and beautiful green grass in the summers. The winters were long very cold and the snow would be deep some times drifts up to 25 feet. I remember being able to walk up to the barns and just walk up the drifts onto the roof tops and opening our front door with a surprise of a wall of snow that we had to dig out of to get out the door ,even the fencing around our property was deep under snow .Those days were defiantly Canadian winters. It was those winters that gave our country the nick name of the great white north !

Christmas morning at 5 years old I a woke to my dad at my bedroom door waiting for me to get up, he was like a kid at Christmas, it was his favourite time of year. When I woke up I put my robe and slippers on then my dad took me to our front window to show me that Santa had been there ! I said daddy I know Santa was here cause he left presents for me under the tree ! Well my dad said yes miss muffit but he also left some tracks out in the snow ! I looked harder, then dad said put your boots and coat on and come with me. So dad and I went out to the front and what did I see was eight tiny rain dear prints there was rain dear poop, Santa's boot prints and sleigh prints in the snow. I was soo happy and couldn't believe what I saw ! Well my face lite up and that made my dad so very happy to see.

Years later I found out that my dad had made all the prints in the snow ! See he used an old broken hockey stick for the sleigh prints, used sheep poop and a hoof for the dear prints and his big old winter boots for Santa's boot prints ! My dad loved Christmas and he loved seeing our faces light up every year at the magic that Christmas brings !

All Done !!!

Saturday Papa worked in his work shop for a while finishing up a project , I did laundry , then Papa and I put up the outside Christmas lights on the house . I decided to get some photos as it looked pretty with all the colours !

Then Saturday evening was the potluck supper it was fun and full of laughter and food Oh my there was enough food to feed an army ! Everything was home made MMM YUMMY !

Then Sunday was a day of Christmas shopping we were late shopping this year , but we got it all done on Sunday with in a few hours ! This year Papa and I are only giving each other a small gift each as we buy a lot of things we need or want through out the year ! Our kiddos maybe coming down for Christmas they live in different areas and sometimes its tuff to get them all here at the same time !

I don't think it looks to promising for us for a white Christmas as it is to rain again on and off this week and on the weekend. This time last year we were at a record snow fall and digging out for days but Christmas is still a few days away and here in Ontario Canada the weather can change in a snap !

An Evening Of Baking

This evening is the Vienna Village Christmas Pot Luck Supper and it will be held at Papa’s mom & dads ! This Vienna is in Ontario !

Each year around Christmas time one of our neighbours holds this pot luck supper at their house. Every one brings so much home made foods and treats YUMMY ! We all eat , chat and have a good laugh.

last year we took home made chilli, this year we are bringing a desert !

Yesterday evening making cupcakes !

Papa grabbed my camera for me and took some photos of decorating cupcakes !

Papa put the icing on and then I did the sprinkles !

Even Miggy got in on it all !

Miggy just loves the last bit of whipped icing !

And that was our evening , making cupcakes !

An Extra Christmas Decoration

We seem to have an extra Christmas decoration every now and then.

Harley loves to sleep there once in a while ! I don't think she was pleased I was taking her photo as she doesn't like to strike a pose !

Harley always gives off the look as if to say “ REALLY “ ?!!

She doesn't like the camera much ! Un like her sister Miggy who loves the camera as you all know !

Feeling Under The Weather

I have been suffering from chronic aches, pain , sore , stiffness and throbbing for about 6 months now in my legs and hips more so in my right leg but it does periodically switch to the left then I have it in both at the same time ! Now it is all over even in my butt ! At first it was on and off, didn't think much of it but the past month it has been getting worse I feel very week like I have been beaten up with feelings of bruises but there aren't any ! I do suffer from restless leg syndrome that I have had all my life, most of that is at night but now it hits during the day also ! Even have IBS . It took me some time to go to the doctor as I am stubborn that way and really don't have much faith in the medical profession as I have had lots of problems with them in the past and they seem to look at you like your NUTS !! but when the pain brings someone like me who has a high tolerance to pain to tears its time to do something.I haven't slept through the night for months and am always fatigued and down right exhausted now. I hobble around like a penguin and cant sit or stand for long periods of time and am finding it hard to do my every day tasks my legs sometimes hurt to the touch as well . I try to take Miggy for a walk every day weather permitting to keep things moving but it doesn't help, sometimes I worry that I wont make it back as my legs kind of seize up . I have been taking hot baths and using heating pads and a hand held massager to slow the aching and throbbing down but it doesn't always work ! Now I went to the doctors and had x rays of my hips, lower back and leg bones after I had told him my symptoms. He wanted the x rays to rule out rheumatoid arthritis , arthritis and fibromyalgia , well I have none of that according to the tests . But fibromyalgia can not be detected by x ray or blood work .So now what ? my legs and body are still throbbing and causing a lot of pain and discomfort for me, my body is telling me something is wrong !

I feel like a HOUSE episode ! The TV show !

I go back to the doctors the 29th of this month if I can last that long and we will go over all the symptoms again !

I didn't want to write this post as I cant stand sounding like I want or am looking for sympathy and don't like to let others hear about my woes . I just felt I needed to get it off my chest , and let all you wonderful blogger friends know this as I may drop off the blogger grid for a bit due to its hard for me to get around right now and wont have much happy things to post about or many photos!

Poor Papa having to hear and see me every day in pain and wobble around like a weeble lol I feel more sorry for him as he has been so wonderful ! Let me tell ya the jokes have been flying between us, makes it easier when ya can still laugh !

Trust me I hate feeling like this and or wining about it but hope they find something cause to me finding something is better then nothing !

Isn’t getting older fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT FOR SOME !!!! calling out ! Hey Papa get that chair thing with the wheels for me , a walker , a cane, anything !!!! Back the truck up if ya have to !!!!!

Taking a break again !

Miggy runs fast and hard when she plays. It’s hard to believe after seeing these photos that just last February she had reconstruction knee surgery and we didn't know how well it would go or affect her future ! I posted her recovery the entire time , it was a tuff time for all of us as Miggy and I were house bound for 3 months whilst she recovered. Then she had a bad sore from the pressure of the bandages and had to spend another 2 months in side ! She didn't really get to be free and on her own off the leash till about June or July of this past summer ! But ya know the entire time she remained the happy tail wagin girl that she is ! Her knee is now 150 % you would never know she had major knee construction surgery not only on her knee but the muscle and tendons as well ! Papa and I are so glad she is back in full force and loving life !

Yesterday was a nice day the sun was out , not a cloud in the sky and the temp was +4 with no winds. We went for our walk as we do every morning weather permitting . Then by the afternoon it was even more beautiful . Miggy had been outside for hours as she always is on nice days . I went out side to play with her and had my camera with me and decided to take photos of her chasing her rope ball and squeaky ball as I throw them for her. Kind of hard to play ball and take photos I tell ya but I got lots of surprisingly good shots !

The weather has been bitterly cold and windy. I am surprised we don't have snow with these cold temperatures . Right now its -1°C that's darn cold BURRR !

I thought I would share with you all my favourite Christmas ornaments and decorations that we have here at the Cove !

Yesterday I spent the best part of the day putting up our Christmas tree and decorations , Papa spent the day in his shop finishing another project !

I like taking photos of some of the glass ornaments with no other light but from the Christmas tree ! It reflects the light on and through them !

Some of these ornaments we have had for many years !

A Dusting Of Snow

The minuet I let Miggy out to do her business she was as happy as anything to see snow , she ran around the yard like a mad dog snuffling and licking up what little snow there was ! Miggy and I went for a nice walk this morning whilst it was gently snowing , all was still and quiet .

When we returned home the birds in the yard were feeding like crazy, not so quiet then ! I put out the peanuts and the Blue Jays turned up . I was worried that our Red Bellied Woodpecker I named Charlie wasn’t coming back as long before now last year he was here , but to my surprise I heard him squawking and saw him for a second as he flew by. It takes them a bit to get used to the movement in the yard again so soon I will be taking his photo once again ! It is nice to see all the winter birds returning ! I took some photos this morning . I have been waiting for some snow just to get a different look and feel to my photos !

Don't think we are to get much more snow. I prefer snow cause Miggy is such a mucky mess when its just wet and muddy ! At least snow is just wet and if she gets mud on her all she has to do is walk in the snow to wash it off . I have gone through so many towels and washed her feet , legs , belly and face at least 4 times a day ! She's our Muck pup in this weather !

HURRAY !

We have the part for our furnace in and she's a working like a charm . Poor old clunker I thought she had given up the ghost , guess she still has some heating power left in her after all ! That's good !

The sun is just rising. its crisp and cold out and the birds are at the feeders stocking up for the day ! Its been days since we have seen the sun.

I haven’t seen very many of the seasons birds yet where this time last year they were here in droves . I guess with the weird weather we have been having it has confused them as to migrate here or not ! The beautiful Tundra Swans have finished their route of flight over us and now are moving up farther north. Here they are a protected bird .

Since it is to be a nice sunny day I think I will go out later and take photos !

Grandmas 92nd Birthday Party

Yesterday we went to celebrate Grandmas 92nd Birthday . The family got together at her retirement home with lots of laughs, food and good conversation .

Grandma was surprised as she thought she was just having a visit with a few family members !

Boy was she surprised to see everyone there ! She had no idea we all were there !

Back In The Heat Of Things

First , I would like to thank all of you for your kind and warm comments whilst our furnace was on the blink. We had a guy Brian from Papa’s work who does their heating a cooling systems come to the house and find what the problem was. We need a new valve on the old clunker , so he has that on order . He did his magic for now and the furnace is working. Papa also relocated the thermos stat re wired it and that seems to help as well , where it was it wasn't getting a proper reading and now it does. So we will keep our fingers and toes crossed that the furnace will keep on keeping on whilst we wait for the part !

Thank goodness for the wood stove that's all I have to say !

We are going to visit Papa’s grandma on Sunday for her 92nd Birthday ! She is still as sharp as ever and a wonderful women, British she is and a “ hoot n nanny “ to talk to ! She is in a retirement home 2 hours away and the rest of the family will be there as well ! Lots of photos and catching up to do !

Another Wet Day !

Yesterdays post I mentioned that our furnace is on the blink, well it still is, Papa couldn't find what the problem is which is strange cause he’s good with stuff like that , it has us stumped ! It is an old furnace and last year we had the same problem but then it suddenly fixed its self ”Weird “ ! I think its on it’s last legs to be honest ready to give up the ghost ! The bad part is they don't make that brand of furnace any more , so we will have to use our wood stove more and chop more wood and stack this weekend and see about a new furnace later ! they don't come cheap that's for sure ! Oh well !

It was wet snow coming down this morning but the flakes were big enough to see and it was soo pretty ! I am sure soon we will get lots of snow and it will stay !

I find capturing falling snow hard to do ! Unless its a lot coming down and the flakes are huge !

This photo its self is a bit blurry as the camera was focussing on the falling snow more then the still subjects !

That yellow tent shed there on the left is where we store our wood !

These containers are also wood storage on the patio !

This stack and the containers makes it convenient to just pop out the door and collect wood and store in the house in the wood box Papa made some time ago !

It holds a whole days worth of wood , doesn't look like it does it !

Frosty 1st Day Of December

Wow! I cant believe its December already !

Well this morning we woke early , Papa had to go to work and wouldn’t ya know it one of the coldest frostiest mornings we have had yet and our furnace is on the blink . Papa went down to see what was the problem but he had to get going for work and so he will look at it later when he gets home . So after Papa left for work I put the wood stove on, thank goodness we have that for heat !

So as the girls and I were waiting for it to get warm , I decided to take a photo of them ! Again playing on the stairs where they always love to play !

Then after all this the sun was slowly coming up and I looked out the window and OH MY ! The sun was twinkling off of all the frost it was soo pretty , so I had to go out and take photos !

Here I go again in my Jammies lumber jacket boots with camera in hand !

These are just some of the photos I took. I get soo carried away with the beauty of the frost on things and gleaming in the sun !

Whilst The Rain Was At Rest !

We had major down pores yesterday , so much that a small river was forming on the road flowing fast down the little hill of the road and deep puddles forming in the yard and fields !There was also high gusts of wind and boy it was cold as well !

Miggy was soo board and antsy as she always gets when its a rainy day and she cant go out much.

So as there was a small break in the rain this is what Miggy got up to !

Miggy found a big stick !

By the time I saw her she had already had most of it chewed !

Just need to get a better grip here !

She had claimed the stick with the paw ! Then I called out to her cause she had no idea I was watching and taking photos.

She laid down fast and tried to hide and gave me the wasn't me ! look .

She does this when she has been busted , the kind of thing where they are trying to look innocent but know they are guilty in doing something lol ! I don't mind her chewing sticks its just the sap or juices that's in the birch tree sticks can make her sick if she chews it to much !

So I tell her , its ok Miggy good girl , time to come in now its starting to rain again !

She's like I will just nap here Mum ok! Guard my stick !

She did come in and it started to rain hard again for the rest of the day

Today it has got that icy cold feeling in the air and it is drizzling wet snow, rain mix ! YUCKY !!! I don't depend on the weather man much anymore they are mostly wrong lol I use my farmers intuitions that my dad taught me ! The temp is below freezing and the air has that arctic smell and feel to it today .

I think a day like today calls for a home made Shepherds Pie for supper YUMMY !

Early Morning Rain

It has been raining solid since 6pm last night and will continue to rain all day today ! I am glad it isn't snow cause we would be digging out for days !

But at least if it was snow Miggy and I could go out and play in it !

Papa just finished this beautiful step stool for me. He has been busy every evening with this project !

Isn't it beautiful !

I took photos in different lighting so you can see the detail and colouring !

He cut out the butterfly as I love butterfly's with different wood and set it with in the step !
